Oct 13th. We overnighted in the parking lot of the Tourist Information Centre in St. Peters PEI, and yes they said we could. The weather is changing fast and it is very cold, down to freezing last night.
After some reading I have found that the French flag with the star is infact the Acadian flag, it is flown throughout the Maritimes. On our way down the east side of New Brunswick we could really not see what the people there did for a living, we did see a few peat moss plants, but that does not cover all those people. Fishing is part but that is not enough for everyone, and, the towns are not large, most of the smaller ones are only houses not even small grocery stores. So my next thought was, why are there no gardens planted on these large pieces of property, huge lawns to cut but no gardens. Also, they all seemed to have huge churches so they must have had more population at one time, it takes people and money to support these churches.
Our drive along the east coast of PEI has been wonderful. What a lovely province. They are right in the midst of potato harvesting so we have seen the large trucks full of potatoes  heading down the road. The soil here is very red and when wet it is very sticky. Stopped by one fish wharf where they were bringing in mussels to the processing area. The mussels are grown in the bay like our oysters on long lines attached to floats. They are very large mussels like our island west coast ones.
The towns here are small as well and homes and yards very well maintained, all neat and tidy. The island of PEI for what we have seen is very scenic and a nice drive about .Not much open as most of the tourist sites closed down at the end of Sept. We did manage to find a place for our turkey dinner yesterday. North Rustico, has a restaurant where you can have lobster et all, but they had a lunch special for $14.95 of salad bar, turkey dinner, desert and coffee, could not turn that one down and it was very good. We are off to finish the east coast and then down to the west side and Charlottetown and then back over the Confederation Bridge to Nfld and then over to Nova Scotia.  The Confederation Bridge is something else, wow, 13km across (8mi) and narrow.  We had a speed limit going across of 60km as it was windy. You pay as you leave from PEI, the return trip is $42.50.  We have travelled approx 7600 km since we left home on Sept 13th so we are putting on the miles and fuel has not been an issue in cost nor has accommodations. There are not alot of camping places open so we have been staying for free in Wal Mart parking lots (as have others) and a few roadside spots. Our camper is working out just great and it is nice and cozy warm at night.
